Rockwall Population- 17,976 Altitude - 596

Founded in 1854, Rockwall became the seat of Rockwall county (the smallest county in Texas) in 1874.  It was named for a subterranean rock formation that has been the subject of numerous studies.  Although there has been speculation that the wall bwas built by prehistoric man, geologists beleive the phenomenon is a finger of the Balcones Fault with the "wall" formed when geologic stress split the formation.  Rockwall also has a scenic golf course near Lake Ray Hubbard.
